The Astana International Financial Centre’s Academy of Law has joined forces with one of Central’s Asia’s leading law firms, Seven Pillars Law, to co-curate programmes dealing with the future of law, how legal technology will enhance access to justice and the changing role of lawyers. The course will focus on the world class legal system in place in the AIFC, along with common law processes and procedures, allowing lawyers across Central Asia to become more familiar with legal practice in other financial centres such as New York, London, Singapore and Sydney.

Noting the importance of signing the Memorandum, Co-founder of Seven Pillars Law, Mark Beer OBE said:

“Working together, Seven Pillars Law and the Academy of Law will prepare lawyers for the future. The courses will also help lawyers use technology that enhances access to justice to all Kazakh citizens.

As one of the region’s most innovative law firms, we are delighted to work with the Academy of Law and AIFC again and look forward to welcoming lawyers to our courses.”

The Academy of Law and Seven Pillars Law will combine resources to raise awareness about the Acting Law of the AIFC and its jurisdiction, exchange of information between organisations, participation in conferences, exhibitions and other events organised by the parties. The priority is to focus on promotion of legal and business education, review and discuss changes in legislation, work on academic research, publication of articles, opinions and policy statements, as well as support the young generation of lawyers by promoting AIFC Academy of Law, and the AIFC Foundations for Students Course and Scholarship Program.

Director of the AIFC Academy of Law, David Gallo noted the following:

“The AIFC Academy of Law is dedicated to enhancing legal knowledge across Central Asia.  We are delighted to work with one of the region’s leading law firms, Seven Pillars Law, to educate the next generation of lawyers about the future of law.”

It was concluded by Kim Siegel, Co-founder of Seven Pillars Law, who emphasised:

“Since founding Seven Pillars Law in the AIFC, I have been impressed by the dynamism and commitment of the Academy of Law. In that, our organisations share a common philosophy and outlook to the future and the criticality of knowledge and education. We are pleased to be working with the Academy of Law again and improving the legal environment in Central Asia.”

Both parties are engaged in and have the aim of contributing to the development of legal education in general and intend to explore collaboration opportunities for the benefit of the community. To implement joint proposals, and ensure the efficiency of the work being done, the parties agreed to use various forms of interaction, establish a regular exchange of information, and use international experience.
